I create large-scale worlds, scenarios, and figures that relate to gender and lesbian sexuality, crossing boundaries, and creating a life based on replacing the socially given central image with images of my own choosing. My process in doing so is based in mixed materials and techniques with a focus on composition, color, and construction so as to hold forth confidently my perception and reality of the world. My process is heavily based in construction and deconstruction, embracing my queerness through assemblages of dynamic, incomplete, “opposing” parts operating in various cultural contexts. The work is meant to suggest crossing boundaries and exceeding acceptable “extents” as they come into their own world. A world where mutability wouldn’t be necessary for survival. A world where freedom stretches to take on more meaning than can be held on a bumper sticker. Not a world of being wedged between social constructs, but of hopeful, fluid possibility.
